The Economist: The True Cost of Fast Fashion

The short film looks at the over consumption and throw away culture that the fast fashion industry promotes and some of the brands that are challenging this approach.

In Britain, more than 300,000 tonnes of clothes end up in landfill every year. It's the fastest growing category of waste in the country.

The Economist takes us to Savanna Rags, a clothing recycling and processing plant in Nottingham, UK, to highlight the sheer scale of the throw away culture that dominates the society we live in.

They also spotlight brands such as Patagonia, who with their philosophy of buy once, buy well, and mend clothing, are challenging the broken fashion business model.

As an industry we're creating product that people don't need by stimulating demand and creating this sense that if you don't buy it now it's not going to be available. Ryan Gellery, General Manager, EMEA Patagonia
