[August, 2020] Un(der)paid in the pandemic

Garment workers were denied billions in wages owed to them by big fashion brands.

During the COVID pandemic workers were denied their legal wages, as brands cancelled or delayed payments on their orders.

It was estimated that across South and Southeast Asia garment workers received 38% less than their regular income. In some regions of India this rises to above 50%.

We deduce in Indonesia and Bangladesh workers were collectively withheld respectively over 400 million and 500 million USD in owed wages over three months. David Hachfeld, Public Eye/Clean Clothes Campaign, Switzerland
